Finance Minister Poudel resolute on every measure to check revenue leakage

KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel has said the government would emerge tough with every measure possible to curb revenue leakage and other irregularities.

“We can’t be tolerant to revenue leakage but emerge stringent,” he stressed at a meeting of central revenue leakage control committee in the ministry on Thursday.

The Minister however said those involved in entrepreneurship would be protected and promoted. He directed the officials concerned not to leave any stone unturned to punish those involved in irregularities and protect innocent ones. Activities should be forwarded in smooth coordination, the Minister added.

According to him, monitoring should be augmented at local and central levels. The ministry activities should focus on solving problems and eliminating weakness so that economic activities would accelerate.

On the occasion, Finance Secretary Sishir Kumar Dhungana viewed that it was essential to exchange information among the ministry, department and security agencies.

Revenue Secretary Ramsharan Pudashaini shared that efforts were on to curb revenue leakage and ensure systemic reform.

Similarly, Home Ministry Secretary Maheshwor Neupane expressed commitment that the ministry would take necessary action to control revenue leakage. Regular discussion is imperative to this regard, he added.

Monitoring is essential, said Revenue Management Division Chief Rameshwor Dangal, adding that those involved in the irregularities were punished stringently.

Revenue Department Director General Yamlal Bhushal said small customs would be made more effective.
