Govt to address Tharu grievances through political dialogue: Home Minister



KATHMANDU: Minister of Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa has assured Tharu protesters of resolving issues of Tikapur incident through political dialogue.

Members of the Tharu community have been protesting, putting forward various demands, at Maitighar, Kathmandu, since Sunday.

Minister Thapa reached Maitighar to meet with the protesting leaders of Tharu community Thursday, and said the government was positive about addressing the demands of Tharu community through political mechanism.

The demands of Tharu community include release of lawmaker Resham Chaudhary, judicial probe into Tikapur incident, declaring those who died during the Tharuhat movement martyrs, among others.

Saying the government would form a talks team soon, Home Minister Thapa urged Tharu leaders to choose representatives to hold talks with the government.

Tharu leader Rukmani Chaudhary said Minister Thapa had given commitment to resolve issues of Tharu community at the earliest through political dialogue.
