KATHMANDU: With the reinstatement of the dissolved House of Representatives (HoR) by the Supreme Court, the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has a pivotal role in the future political course of Nepal.

The process of the government formation has started with the reinstatement of the HoR. The SC has ordered to call the HoR meeting by March 8 with the verdict to reinstate the HoR.

Concerns have been growing which side the NC will take when a no confidence motion will be filed against Prime Minister Oli at the house meeting.

Both Oli and Prachanda-Nepal factions are seeking support from the NC for a new power-sharing.

The NC now has a key role as the next government is dependent on it.

Chairman duo of the Prachanda-Nepal faction Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal on Wednesday met with NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba and proposed him for power-sharing.

President Deuba in a public function has hinted that the NC is now in a wait-and-see situation.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday reinstated the HoR dealing a blow to the Prime Minister Oli’s move to dissolve the HoR concluding that it was constitutional, anti-democratic and against the mandate of the people.

A five-member Constitutional Bench led by Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana annulled the government’s decision to dissolve the HoR.

A total of 13 writ petitions were registered at the SC seeking the reinstatement of the HoR.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari had dissolved the House parliament on the recommendation of Prime Minister KP Oli on December 20, 2020.
