Oli faction’s SC meeting postponed

KATHMANDU:  A Standing Committee (SC) meeting of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) led by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has been postponed.

The SC meeting to be held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar today has been put off, leader Satyanarayan Mandal told Khabarhub.

Mandal, however, did not mention the reason for the postponement of the SC meeting. “I have received the information about the postponement of the SC meeting,” said Mandal without mentioning the reason.

The SC meeting scheduled for today was supposed to take stock of the latest political development created after the Supreme Court (SC) reinstated the House of Representatives (HoR).

The SC meeting of the faction held on Wednesday decided to respect the verdict of the SC, call HoR meeting at the earliest, to take stock of the party by holding the central committee (CC) meeting and parliamentary party meeting.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday reinstated the HoR dealing a blow to the Prime Minister Oli’s move to dissolve the HoR concluding that it was constitutional, anti-democratic and against the mandate of the people.

A five-member Constitutional Bench led by Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana annulled the government’s decision to dissolve the HoR.

A total of 13 writ petitions were registered at the SC seeking the reinstatement of the HoR.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari had dissolved the House parliament on the recommendation of Prime Minister KP Oli on December 20, 2020.
