Lawyers protest in front of Janakpur High Court demanding CJ Rana’s resignation

JANAKPURDHAM: Lawyers affiliated with the Nepal Bar Association (NBA) have staged a protest in front of Janakpur High Court demanding the resignation of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana.

Taking part in the protest organized by NBA in Janakpur on Wednesday, the lawyers said that Chief Justice Rana should help to resolve the crisis in judiciary by resigning from the post.

The lawyers accused the chief justice of seeking role in executive and constitutional commissions.

“Does the chief justice have to participate in the constitutional commission and make his people ministers?” Leela Mani Poudel, general secretary of the Nepal Bar Association asked.

He argued that the Chief Justice should resign even if it is for himself as he is not above the constitution and law. He also drew the attention of all political parties to play role to purify the judiciary.

The road was blocked for some time by the demonstration of legal practitioners.
