Extremist nationalism should not deter MCC project: FNCCI President Golchha



KATHMANDU: President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Shekhar Golchha has said that the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) project should be ratified at the earliest and extremist nationalism should not deter the mega project.

Speaking at a program on public-private partnership in economic rejuvenation organized by the Nepalese Association of Financial Journalists’ Association (NAFIJ) in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Golchha said the MCC project is suitable for Nepal’s economic development and has to be taken to implementation completing the formal procedure at the earliest.

“I do not have any personal interest in MCC. However, this project must be passed for the economic development of Nepal,” he said.

MCC is a mega-grant worth USD 500 million Nepal formally bagged in 2017. The grant that is aimed to construct about 300km 400 KV transmission lines from Lapsiphedi- Galchhi – Damauli – Sunwal corridor along with 3 substations and maintenance of about 300 km roads in various alignment of Mechi, Koshi, Sagarmatha, Tribhuvan Rajpath and East-West Highway.

Golchha lauded the role played by Nepal Rastra Bank in liquidity management for the post COVID-19 economic recovery.
