KATHMANDU: Central member of ruling Nepali Congress Pradeep Paudel has urged the party leadership to stop distributing active memberships in the run up to the general convention.
He suggested that the active memberships should be distributed regularly and halted in the year the general convention is held.
“The distribution of the active memberships should be started immediately following the general convention and its distribution should be stopped in the year the general convention is held to end the dispute,” said Paudel.
Paudel, who is also the spokesperson of the active membership probe committee, has said that the dispute often crops up due to the attitude of distributing active memberships based on the calculation to intentionally turn the tables in a group’s favor in the general convention.
“It is natural for the problem to occur when the work of four years is done in 40 days,” said Paudel. “The party should rectify it.”
Task-force submitted the report to party President Sher Bahadur Deuba on Monday evening, after sealing an agreement in principle.
He stated that the general convention will take on time with the consensus reached on the active membership.
The NC’s 14th General Convention has been slated for November 25-29. The ward convention will be held on September 3.
