JSP’s Thakur faction leader warns not to support for new party

KATHMANDU: Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) leader Raj Kishor Yadav has said that he will not support Chairman Mahanta Thakur if he (Thakur) tries to form a new party.

An Executive Committee member close to JSP Chairman Thakur, Yadav had attended the meeting of both factions of late.

Hearing on the JSP dispute, the Election Commission (EC), has ordered the Executive Committee members of both factions to show themselves before the Commission for verification of their signature on Monday.

Earlier, Thakur and Upendra Yadav had held separate meetings on Saturday.

Lawmaker Yadav attended the meeting of both the factions.

According to JSP sources, he reached Balkumari after being called by Chairman Upendra Yadav and expressed his views at a meeting of the Executive Committee.

Yadav also attended a meeting of Thakur faction and told Thakur that he was in favor of unity and could not support him if he tried to form a new party.

In response, Thakur said that he was also not in the mood to form a new party, but now there are frail chances to retain party unity.

Upendra Yadav faction of JSP has already got the majority in the party and with Raj Kishor added to the group, Thakur faction is likely to be weaker than before.

Failure to reach 40 percent in the executive committee and the parliamentary party will put Thakur’s party in further crisis. If a new party is registered, the position of the lawmakers supporting Thakur faction might be in crisis again.
