Barekot Rural Municipality demands 9,000 quintals of rice for rainy season

JAJARKOT: The Barekot Rural Municipality in the district has demanded 9,000 quintals of rice for the rainy season.

The Municipality chair Mahendra Shah shared that the food stock was needed for the municipality as the road section might get obstructed due to flood and landslide in the areas in the rainy season, resulting in a disruption in the food supply and thus food shortage.

Shah added that they have urged the Food Management and Trade Company to provide the food in subsidy.

The local food production is not adequate for the whole year in the rural municipality and the locals are dependent on food grain supply from outside.

He further shared that 73 families in Barekot Rural Municipality-4 are still living under tents for the past year as their houses were damaged in a natural disaster last year.

A local farmer Janak Bahadur Shahi complained that they were facing a food shortage every year as their crops are damaged by landslides and heavy rains in the rainy season.

He added that the district connected with the road network by only one road section may disrupt any time in the rainy season.

Meanwhile, a temporary shelter has been established in Birendra Himalaya Secondary School to rescue the locals from possible natural disasters in the locality.
