Lumbini opposition lawmakers seek legal documents related to CM Pokhrel’s re-appointment



KATHMANDU: Opposition lawmakers in the Lumbini Province Assembly have demanded documents ranging from the appointment of Shankar Pokhrel as Chief Minister to the signatures of lawmakers from the province Chief’s office.

Writing a letter to Lumbini Province Chief on Monday, the opposition lawmakers in the province demanded the documents ranging from the appointment of Shankar Pokhrel as Chief Minister to the signature of the lawmakers who backed CM Pokharel.

According to sources, lawmakers, who had signed a no-confidence motion against CM Shankar Pokharel, have demanded the substantive documents as they are the basis for appointing Pokhrel as the Chief Minister.

The parliamentary party’s chief whips in the provinces, Nirmala Chhetri, of the Nepali Congress, Parvati Pun of CPN-Maoist Center, Purmati Dhega, of Janata Samajbadi Party, and Tara GC of Rastriya Janamorcha Nepal leader, filed the petition at the province chief’s office on Monday seeking information as per the constitutional provisions related to the Right to Information.

The petition sought the documents related to the end of the parliamentary session and the re-appointment of Shankar Pokhrel as the leader of the UML parliamentary party along with the consent signed by the members of the Province Assembly on May 2.

Similarly, they asked for the letter submitted demanding to appoint Maoist Center Parliamentary Party leader Kul Prasad KC as the Chief Minister.
