NRB has not ruled restricting check transaction below Rs 50,000

KATHMANDU: Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Maha Prasad Adhikari has clarified that the central bank has not directed the banks and financial institutions not to cash check below Rs 50,000.

Responding to one of the social media user criticizing NRB saying new provision put the customers into difficulties on Sunday, Governor Adhikari said that there is no provision to take only more than Rs 50,000 through check.

Some banks have been strongly advising the customers to take to electronic payment and are said to have refused to cash the small check.

“There has been no such instruction and it has not been done,” Adhikari replied in the Twitter, suggesting the customers to offer substantive information on NRB’s grievance portal.

He promised to take against the banks and financial institutions if found troubling the customers that way.
