Gandaki Province NC calls PP meeting to discuss govt formation

KATHMANDU: Gandaki Province parliamentary party (PP) meeting of Nepali Congress (NC) has been called on Saturday to discuss the government formation.

According to Gandaki Province lawmaker of NC Bishnu Lamichhane, the PP meeting has been called for an internal discussion about the role the party has to play in the province assembly meeting scheduled for Sunday.

A special session of the Gandaki Provincial Assembly has been called on Sunday. The session is expected to pass a no confidence motion against Chief Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung and also to form a new government.

The NC, CPN-Maoist Center and Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) are holding internal discussions on Saturday.

Earlier, an agreement had been reached between the Maoist Center, Rastriya Janamorcha and JSP to form an NC-led government in Gandaki province by displacing the CPN-UML-led government of Prithvi Subba Gurung.

With a majority, it seems certain that a Nepali Congress-led government will be formed. Nepali Congress has nominated Gandaki Pradesh parliamentary party leader Krishna Chandra Nepali as the new chief minister.

NC has presented its province PP leader Krishna Chandra Nepali as a candidate for the post of Chief Minister.

Out of 60 members in the province assembly 28 belong to CPN-UML, 15 to NC, 12 to Maoist Center, 3 to Janamorcha and 2 to JSP.
