Standing Committee meeting of NCP Oli-led faction underway at Baluwatar

KATHMANDU: The Standing Committee meeting of the KP Oli faction of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) is underway at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar.

The meeting is discussing a way forward after the Supreme Court reinstated the House of Representatives on Tuesday, party leader Subash Nembang said.

Chairman and Prime Minister KP Oli has called the meeting to discuss the situation after the Supreme Court overturned the government’s decision to dissolve the parliament.

Party leaders Ishwor Pokhrel, Ram Bahadur Thapa, Nembang, among others are attending the meeting.

Meanwhile, journalists have not been allowed to enter Baluwatar.

A five-member Constitutional Bench led by Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana on Tuesday had annulled the government’s decision to dissolve the HoR.

Likewise, the SC had also ordered the government to summon the House session within the next 13 days.

President Bidya Dev Bhandari had dissolved the House parliament at the recommendation of Prime Minister KP Oli on December 20, 2020.

A total of 13 writ petitions were registered at the SC seeking the reinstatement of the HoR.

The five-strong Constitutional Bench led by Chief Justice Rana had ordered the reinstatement of the HoR after two months of the hearing.
