KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has said that the Nepali Congress being a democratic party needs to accept the Supreme Court’s decision.

Speaking at a gathering of leaders and cadres at Belauri of Kanchanpur Constituency No. 1, Koirala said, “We accept the court’s verdict as NC is a democratic party.” Maybe, if the court upholds the decision to dissolve the House of Representatives, we will have to take to the streets to ensure the election.”

He said that the Congress should put pressure on the government to hold the elections as there are many voices that the election cannot be held in April.

“It is not the responsibility of the Nepali Congress to hold the election. If the parliament is not restored, the Congress should put pressure on the government to hold elections in April,” Koirala said.

“If the election is not held on April 30, the country will witness another conflict. Now, the time has come to be truthful. We have to show that the Congress can stand on its own feet, not by collaborating with the Communists. And, let’s prove it”, he added.

Leader Koirala also raised suspicion over Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel’s attitude.

There are suspicions among the cadres that NC President Deuba would collaborate with Prime Minister KP Oli. On the other hand, senior leader Poudel likely to join with the Prachanda-Madhav faction, he said.

The NC, Koirala said, should not join hand with either faction.
