NCP row: Prachanda-Nepal faction expels PM Oli from party

Removed from party's general membership: Bhusal

KATHMANDU: The Prachanda-Nepal faction of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has taken a disciplinary action against Prime Minister KP Oli by expelling him from the party.

A Standing Committee meeting of the faction held at Perisdanda on Sunday decided to expel PM Oli from the party.

The dissident faction has alleged PM Oli for breaching the party discipline and is liable to expulsion from the party. The faction had earlier relieved Oli from the Chairman.

According to Pampha Bhusal, leader of the dissident faction, Sunday’s meeting decided to expel Oli even as an general membership alleging him of violating the party statute.

“He (Oli) is not even an ordinary member of the party now,” Bhusal said.

The faction had earlier asked PM Oli to furnish explanation as asking “why not take action against you for anti-party activities? Please give a satisfactory explanation within three days.”

The faction had handed over a letter to the Prime Minister’s residence over a decision to seek clarification. However, Oli did not respond to the letter.

Sunday’s meeting also reviewed the protest program and discussed a new protest plan.

The faction has taken to the streets against the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR) terming the move unconstitutional and undemocratic.
