Five names proposed for Province 2

KATHMANDU: Five proposals to name Province 2 have been tabled in Province 2 Assembly (PA) meeting Thursday.

The proposed names put forward for discussion in the PA meeting are ‘Madhesh Pradesh’, ‘Janaki Pradesh’, ‘Madhya Madhes Pradesh’ and ‘Mithila Bhojpura’.

The ruling Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) and the CPN-Maoist Center proposed the name ‘Madhesh Pradesh’, which was seconded by the main opposition in the province the Democratic Socialist Party (DSP).

Similarly, another ruling party, the CPN-Unified Socialist (CPN-US) floated ‘Janaki Pradesh’ as prospective name for Province 2.

The proposed names ‘Mithila Bhojpura’ and ‘Madhya Madesh’ came from the Nepali Congress (NC).

Provincial lawmakers Shailendra Kumar Yadav (JSP), Bharat Prasad Sah (Maoist Center), Pramod Kumar Yadav (CPN-US) and Shiv Chandra Chaudhary (NC) tabled their proposed names. NC lawmaker Rajeshwar Prasad Shah put forth the name ‘Madhya Madhes’.

Meanwhile, the CPN-UML’s proposed name was not tabled at the PA today as Speaker Saroj Yadav removed the UML motion to propose the name of the province from the PA agenda. UML lawmaker Sharada Thapa was to propose UML’s name for Province 2.
