Taking hostage of parliament undemocratic: Former PM Bhattarai

KATHMANDU: Federal Council chairperson of Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal, Dr Baburam Bhattarai, has said the main opposition party, CPN UML, should put forth its dissatisfaction without obstructing parliament.

Talking to media persons after the parliament meeting, former Prime Minister Bhattarai opined that making the parliament captive for long was an undemocratic move. “The body of people’s representatives is the supreme place to exercise sovereign power of the people. There may be dissatisfaction. But, the opposition party should put forth its disagreements without obstructing parliament”, reiterated Bhattarai.

Saying democracy would weaken if the opposition party makes the parliament captive for long, Chairperson Bhattarai argued that the UML could create the environment favorable to run the House business as soon as possible.

He further said the House business should be forwarded as per the international practice and parliamentary dignity if the CPN UML continues its obstruction.
