RPP leader Lingden set to announce candidacy for party chairman with Rana’s support

KATHMANDU: Rastra Prajatantra Party (RPP) leader Rajendra Lingden is set to announce his candidacy for the post of party chairperson on Thursday.

Lingden decided to this effect after confirming the support of another RPP leader Dhawal Shumsher Rana. A leader said that it was decided that Rana would support Lingden through discussions between the two new generation leaders.

Lingden said preparations were underway to announce his candidacy at a press conference on Thursday. A leader close to him said, “The decision on the panel, however, was yet to be finalized.”

Leader Lingden was known in the party as a leader close to Chairman Kamal Thapa. When Kamal Thapa formed RPP Nepal due to differences in the party’s line of action, Lingden had supported Thapa. Lingden is the only lawmaker elected from RPP in the 2017 election.

Incumbent chair trio Kamal Thapa, Pashupati Shumsher Rana and Prakash Chandra Lohani are also pondering about re-election. However, their candidacies have not been announced.

The convention of RPP is being held in Kathmandu from December 2 to 4.
