KATHMANDU: A delegation from the Human Rights and Peace Society (HURPES) called on Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, drawing his attention towards the issues of human rights and peace, and other contemporary issues.
During the meeting that took place at the Prime Minister’s official residence, Baluwatar today, the delegation urged the government to promptly endorse the treaty on the ban of nuclear arms that aimed to develop, testing, production-manufacturing, and storage of nuclear weapons.
Likewise, the government was urged to host a virtual meeting among the SAARC nations immediately as Nepal is the current chair of the regional body to prepare a design of an integrated and effective campaign for the safe rescue of South Asian nationals from Afghanistan in the aftermath of the resurgence of the Taliban in the youngest member in the SAARC.
Similarly, global warming, climate change, and the conservation of the Himalayas were the issues raised by the delegation during the meeting, according to HURPES general secretary Ram Krishna Baral.
The delegation consisted of HUPRES chairperson Govinda Khanal, advisor Homkanta Chaulagain, treasurer Jagannath Pudasaini, central member Bishnu Bhusal, and Kathmandu chapter chairperson Ishwor Pudasaini.
