Nepalis returning from Afghanistan being vaccinated against polio



KATHMANDU: The Government of Nepal has decided to inoculate the Nepalis rescued from Afghanistan against polio.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population sources, they are being administered the polio vaccine as per the international practices.

The inoculation will start from Tuesday.

“We have decided to vaccinate the Nepali returnees after getting recommendation from International Health Regulation (IHR), an authority under the World Health Organization,” the Ministry said, “Those who have already gone home are also instructed to get inoculated from the nearby centers.”

Afghanistan has the alarming cases of polio.

Since 2016, only Afghanistan and Pakistan have have got the polio cases. India has already announced to inoculate all Indians returning from Afghanistan against the polio.

The government has rescued 504 civilians from Afghanistan till date.
