KATHMANDU: Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand has said that the government is preparing for immediately supplying food supplies and medicine to the Manang district via air.

Relief support of the first phase is being airlifted as the district has been disconnected by road due to floods and landslides. Speaking at the meeting of the House Representatives, State Affairs, and Good Governance Committee today, Minister Khand said the first priority of the present government is to protect the lives of the people.

The Ministry is working to ease the life of people at risk of monsoon-induced disaster. Almost 54 kilometers of road in Manang district is reported to have been damaged by floods and landslides.

The government is working seriously to address the concerns of disaster survivors in Manang and Sindhuplachowk district, Khand said. Both the districts have already been declared as a disaster-hit zone.

Home Secretary Maheswar Neupane pointed out the need to carry out a study of the recent incidents of floods and landslides and promoting a people-friendly early warning system.

Earlier, the committee members Rekha Sharma, Dilendra Prasad Badu, Chakka Bahadur Lama, Tirtha Gautam, Yashoda Gurung among others drew the attention of the government towards adopting measures to prevent disaster, minimizing the risk and damage, and increasing the effectiveness of rescue and relief initiatives.
