Nepal-Khanal faction leaders’ explanation relatively ‘soft’: Baluwatar meet concludes

KATHMANDU: A meeting of the CPN-UML’s 10th General Convention held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar has concluded that the explanation submitted by the leaders belonging to the disgruntled Madhav Kumar faction has been relatively softer than the previous ones.

Earlier, party Chairman and Prime Minister KP Oli had sought clarification from 27 members of House of Representatives including Madhav Kumar Nepal and five members of the Karnali province assembly alleging that they had been violating the party norms and paving way for party split.

However, HoR lawmakers Yogesh Bhattarai, Ram Kumari Jhankri, Metmani Chaudhary, Nira Jairu and Deepak Bhatta have not given any explanation.

According to the Baluwatar sources, Ganesh Pahadi and Hira KC have expressed their commitment to remain in the ‘mainstream party’ whereas Jayakumar Rai, Som Pandey and Kalyani Khadka have given explanations with suggestions.

The meeting has empowered Standing Committee to take necessary action in this regard.

The source claimed that PM Oli is likely to take stern action against the leaders not much submissive to him and his decisions.

Chairman Oli has reformed the party’s Standing Committee (SC), on Friday, excluding disgruntled Nepal-Khanal leaders in the committee.
