Youth sprinkles kerosene, sets his girlfriend on fire

KATHMANDU: A youth in Kathmandu set his girlfriend on fire by sprinkling kerosene on her body. According to police, the youth tried to kill his girlfriend from Solukhumbu by fire in Kageshwari Manohara Municipality-8.

After setting fire on his girlfriend, the young man from Dolakhaalso also tried to burn himself. His condition is normal, police said.

Pooja Karki, 19, was set on fire by Suraj Shrestha of Dolakha. Pooja was living in Buddhachowk and Suraj in Jorpati.

The girl, who has been seriously injured in the fire, is undergoing treatment in the ICU at Kirtipur Hospital.

Her condition is critical, said Kathmandu Police Campus Chief SSP Ashok Singh. Suraj Shrestha of Dolakha is undergoing treatment in Sankhu.

It has been found that the young man initially beat the girl after consuming drugs and later set her on fire by sprinkling kerosene.

The girl has a forehead injury. The details of the incident have not been disclosed as both of them are in the hospital, police said.
