Petitions filed in SC against govt’s decision to keep golden ‘jalahari’ at Pashupati

KATHMANDU: Two petitions have been registered in the Supreme Court (SC) against the government decision to install golden jalahari at the Pashupatinath Temple.

Member of the Bagmati Provincial Assembly Narottam Baidya and advocate Nikita Dhungana have filed the cases naming the Office of the Prime Minister, the Pashupati Area Development Trust and its executive council, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation; and the central office of Guthi Sansthan as defendants.

They have claimed that the government has violated the spirit and values of the Constitution and laws by deciding to install the golden jalahari.

Prime Minister KP Oli had in January 25 earlier vowed to provide golden jalahari at the Pashupatinath Temple to ensure continuous water flow on the Shiva Linga.
