PM Oli directs to reduce fee for MBBS study

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Oli has directed to reduce the fee proposed by the Medical Education Commission’s Fee Determination Recommendation Task Force.

The commission had proposed to increase the fee for the MBBS program in the academic session 2077/78 BS by Rs 800,000 to Rs 4.8 million.

PM Oli, who is also the Chairperson of the commission, instructed not to increase the fee for this year.

“It is not appropriate for the government to increase the fee as it will have a negative impact as people have been hit hard due to coronavirus,” PM Oli said during a fifth meeting of the commission held at the PM’s residence in Baluwatar.

Don’t talk about raising fees now, postpone it, said PM Oli, directing to talk about reducing the fee.

Immediately, the Co-Chairman of the commission and Minister for Education, Science, and Technology Krishna Gopal Shrestha suggested not to increase the fee in this case as it would send a wrong message.
