Flood and inundation problem will be resolved in long-term manner: PM Deuba



KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that efforts would be made to resolve problems related to floods and inundation in a long-term manner.

While making on-site visit to take stock of the damages caused by flood at Tikapur municipality-8 in Kailali district today, Prime Minister Deuba shared that activities would be carried out by making a plan in order to resolve flood and inundation problem in a long-term manner. He opined, “Floods, landslides and inundation have resulted in a huge loss of lives and properties. Immediate relief, rescue and empathy are necessary to the people in this hour of disaster. The government is carrying out activities in this regard.”

Saying the government would devise a plan for the long-term management of floods and inundation as people in Kailali district have been facing such problems every year, the Prime Minister clarified that the government would make arrangements for long-term relief packages for the farmers as they suffered huge losses following floods and inundation.

He also assured that the government would move ahead making a plan immediately for the resolution of the recent problems as he had closely observed the situation of the affected areas.

A team comprising Prime Minister Deuba, Finance Minister Janardan Sharma, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Prem Ale Magar, among others, had made on-site visit of flood-hit areas of Kailari rural municipality, Bhajani municipality, Tikapur municipality and Janaki rural municipality of Kailali today.

Thousands of families of Tikapur municipality and Janaki rural municipality have been displaced while paddy and vegetable crops planted at hundreds of bighas of land have been completely damaged due to flood and inundation.
