Gandaki govt forms committee to settle fare dispute in public transports

POKHARA: The Gandaki Province government has formed a committee to settle the dispute relating to the fare in the public transport.

According to sources, the government has formed a 10-member committee under the coordination of the secretary of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development to study about the status of fare in public vehicle and make recommendation to the government on the steps to be taken for addressing public concern related to fare.

The committee will recommend whether to increase the vehicle fare or not and suggest the ways for government intervention if needed.

Earlier, the federal government had increased fares between the two provinces by 28 percent. Vehicles in Gandaki province have been charging the fare at the same proportion.

‘The federal government has maintained fares within its sole jurisdiction. However, the province government has the right to fix such charge within the province, ‘said province government spokesperson Kumar Khadka, adding, ‘A committee has been formed to adjust the fare.’

Similarly, noting the increasing trend of helicopter use, the government has also formed a committee to prevent helicopter misuse. A committee comprising secretaries of various ministries has been formed under the coordination of the Minister of Tourism.
