Man, who had gone missing during Maoist insurgency, returns home after 17 years



SYANGJA: A man, who had gone missing during the Maoist insurgency, has returned home after 17 years.

Gopal Prasad Aryal, now 55, of Lalupate at Waling Municipality-6 in the district had left home on 15 June, 2002 in fear of the decade-long insurgency.

Gopal Prasad’s family was informed about his whereabouts before bringing him home.

“Some students and teachers at a local school who had been on an educational visit spotted him at Lamahi in Dang district and informed us about his whereabouts. Thereafter, we reached out and brought him home,” shared the elated spouse of Gopal Prasad, Bali Kumari.

“Our long wait for him and our spending days and nights in worry and trouble have ended after finding him,” she beamed.

The Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons, Syangja, acting on complaints related to finding the whereabouts of people during the insurgency, investigated and found Gopal Prasad.

Likewise, Tuk Bahadur Poudel, 51, of Putalibazaar Municipality-2 in Syangja district who had gone missing during the people’s war has been recovered after 13 years.

The family of Poudel had lodged a complaint with the Commission asking it to search for his whereabouts. RSS
