SC hearing PM-filed writ against reinstatement of Karnali lawmakers

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) is hearing the writ petition filed by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli against the court’s decision to reinstate four CPN-UML provincial lawmakers in Karnali Pradesh.

The ruling UML had taken action against four lawmakers of the Nepal faction for crossing the floor to vote Chief Minister Mahendra Bahadur Shahi of Karnali Pradesh.

Provincial Lawmakers Prakash Jwala, Kurma Raj Shahi, Nanda Bahadur Budha and Ammar Bahadur Thapa had moved the court challenging the action against them taken by the establishment.

Hearing the writ, the Supreme Court had then issued an interim order ruling that the 10th General Convention Organizing Committee of the UML cannot take such an action against them.

Party chair Oli had filed a writ petition at the apex court seeking review on its interim order after a single bench of Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut reinstated Karnali provincial lawmakers.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is also hearing the writ petition filed against the cabinet reformation.
