Former Prime Minister Khanal condemns the dissolution of parliament

Says the conspiracy of the President and the PM will not be successful



KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister and senior leader of ruling CPN-UML Jhalanath Khanal has condemned the act of dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR) as an unconstitutional, undemocratic and autocratic move taken by President Bidya Devi Bhandari and Prime Minister KP Oli.

Commenting on the dissolution of the HoR, former Prime Minister Khanal has said, on Saturday, that dissolution of the HoR  is unconstitutional, and unacceptable.

“This is an unconstitutional, regressive and autocratic move,” he wrote on Twitter, adding, “I strongly condemn this move and call on all patriots and supporters of the federal democratic republic to unite in protest against it.”

Khanal said that the conspiracy against the federal democratic republic will not be successful.

Claiming that both PM Oli and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba failed to offer substantive basis to prove they can gather vote of confidence to form new government as per Article 76 (5) of the Constitution, President Bhandari had announced the dissolution of the House of Representative at midnight on Friday.

The President has announced the mid-term election on November 13-14 in accordance with Article 76 (7).
