UML rival faction leaders to formulate clarification on paper by Tuesday



KATHMANDU: The Madhav Kumar Nepal and Jhala Nath Khanal faction of the CPN-UML has decided to submit explanation sought by party Chair and Prime Minister KP Oli on paper.

An informal meeting of the Standing Committee members of Nepal-Khanal faction, held in Lalitpur earlier Monday, reached a conclusion to present clarification in writing to the UML leadership by Tuesday.

Letters seeking explanation were dispatched from UML central office to four leaders of Nepal-Khanal faction today. The letters, issued by UML party office and signed by General Secretary Ishwar Pokharel, asked them to state their reasons for creating factionalism in the party and forming parallel committees, among other queries.

While senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, Ghanashyam Pandey and Surendra Pandey have received the letters, it was learnt that leader Bhim Rawal refused to receive the letter. According to a UML leader, the staff of the central party office, who went to Rawal’s house to deliver the letter, returned home after dropping the letter in the letterbox after Rawal did not receive the letter.

In the letter, senior-most leader Nepal has been asked to furnish answers for his actions against the party in collusion with Maoist Center Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda’.

The letter has sought Nepal’s answer regarding his relationship with Prachanda amid public remarks made by the latter, relating the former’s attempts to split/seize the party, to unify with Maoist Center.
