KATHMANDU: Traffic has been chaotic in the capital today as rallies organized by the Prachanda-Nepal faction of the Nepal Communist Party have started from various parts of the Valley.

The rallies have been heading towards Bhrikutimandap in the capital where Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal are scheduled to address a mass meeting.

The Dahal-Nepal faction has announced a “show of strength” in Kathmandu on Friday denouncing the KP Oli’s government’s move of dissolving the House of Representatives on December 20.

Most of the roads have been blocked due to the rallies organized by the Prachanda-Nepal faction.

The traffic management has become chaotic due to the rallies and demonstrations, which have started from a dozen places in the capital.

A large number of Prachanda-Nepal faction cadres from Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur are gathering at Bhrikutimandap.

Rallies have come out from Maitighar, Balaju, Dilli Bazaar, Tripureshwor, Koteshwar and other places.

According to the metropolitan traffic police, major as well as inner roads have become chaotic due to the rallies.

The roads in the inner core area are in disarray, it said.

The rallies will gather at Ratna Park and pass through Bhadrakali, Sahid Gate, RNAC, Bag Bazaar, Putali Sadak and finally converge into a mass meeting at Bhrikuti Mandap, said Shrestha.

The faction has urged all the party rank and file to come out of their houses to participate in the protest rally to make the demonstration a huge success.

This is the second time the Prachanda-Nepal faction is organizing the Kathmandu-centric demonstration following the dissolution of HoR.

The faction in a press release on Thursday said the demonstration would be peaceful dismissing rumors that the protest would be violent.

The committee coordinator and party spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha stated that they were alert that some people were trying to divert the mind of people by spreading the rumors that the protest would be violent.

The party has mobilized 2,000 volunteers to make the protest rally and program disciplined and peaceful, the press release reads.

The party has been organizing various protest programs against the government’s move of Parliament dissolution.

President Bidhya Bhandari had dissolved the House of Representatives (HoR) on the recommendation of the Prime Minister last December 20.
