KATHMANDU: Chief Justice Cholendra Shumser Rana today assigned 11 benches to hear on all sorts of cases including the habeas corpus ones.
He has assigned 11 benches for hearings, but did not assign one for himself. Of the assigned benches, one is full, and remaining 10 are single. However, no hearing has started yet.
Though hearing at the apex court has remained suspended since October 24 as judges refusing to be its part over the allegations that the CJ sought his share in the expansion of the Council of the Ministers, the court has the records of hearings on the cases relating to the habeas corpus cases during this period.
Meanwhile, the agitating lawyers have continued to protest demanding the resignation of CJ Rana today as well.
The agitating lawyers of the Nepal Bar Association have launched the fourth phase of demonstration against Chief Justice Rana from today.
Meanwhile, undeterred by the protests, Chief Justice Rana has said that he will step down in line with the constitutional provisions, not based on the street protests staged by the advocates.
