UML’s sacrifice for democracy not less than NC: Chair Oli

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairperson KP Oli has said the UML’s sacrifice for democracy was not less than the Nepali Congress (NC).

Speaking at the launch of ‘Shwetshardul’ — a book on the life of late communist leader Madan Bhandari, Oli said, “We are not guest democrats, we are inborn democrats. We have not sacrificed less for democracy than NC leaders.”

Taking the podium before Oli, former speaker Daman Nath Dhungana charged that the communists were likely to concentrate power. Disagreeing with Dhungana, Oli said, “We did not join in the democracy brought by others; we spilled our sweat and blood to introduce democracy.”

He also claimed that the vision possessed by the UML regarding Nepal’s democracy was not with other parties.

He also expressed his ire against the government for scrapping the work of 1400 strategic roads initiated by UML-led government. He remarked that the government’s ways seemed inauspicious.
