A heartbreaking picture of a dead mother holding her crying child



KATHMANDU: A heartbreaking picture that displays a small child placed on its dead mother’s lap has been going viral on social media of late.

Proving social media a powerful medium to bring out minor incidents and the feelings of anger, impulse, and resentment are often taking a large space in the social media these days.

The viral a picture is of 28-year-old Dharmakumari Batala of Athabiscot Municipality-9 Batala (Sundarpani) in Rukum-West. The child in her is her 32-month-old son Kiran Batala.

According to the sources, Dharma Kumari who had multiple complications including heart disease and the fluctuating blood pressure was called by her husband to Nepalgunj for further treatment. Grabbing her child, she took a night bus (Na 3 Kha 3788) from Radhi to Nepalgunj at 5.30 pm on Thursday for treatment in Nepalgunj.

Before she boarded the bus, she told her husband that she had requested her relatives and neighbors to take care of the house until she returned. But unfortunately, she never returned.

While she was still travelling, the fellow passengers noticed that a child was crying and the mother who had been holding it was lying unconscious. They tried to wake her up, but soon they realized she was dead.

When the child continued crying it was placed in the mother’s lap hoping that would make the child quiet.

The photo has gone viral in facebook.

Hundreds of Facebook users have posted this picture on social media after it was taken by a passenger on the bus.
