14 people killed in wildlife attack in CNP



CHITWAN: Fourteen people lost their lives to wildlife attacks in the last fiscal year 2020/21 at Chitwan National Park and Division Forest Office area.

Of them, 11 were killed in an attack by wild animals inside the Chitwan National Park area while three others at the Division Forest Office, Chitwan, and Nawalparasi area.

Information Officer of the Park, Lokendra Adhikari, said that the highest number of deaths from wildlife is from tiger and rhino attacks. Five persons each died in tiger and rhino attacks.

Similarly, two other died in elephant attack, one each in wild boar and blue bull attack. Altogether 43 people sustained injuries from wildlife attacks at the Chitwan National Park and Forest Office area during the same period.

Of the injured, 25 people sustained minor injuries and 18 were critically injured, he added. Eight people were killed in a wildlife attack at the National Park area in the fiscal year 2019/20.

Of them, one person was killed in a wildlife attack at Division Forest Office. A total of 31 people had sustained injuries in wildlife attacks during the same period.

The Chitwan National Park had distributed Rs 17.484 million as a relief to the families of those, who lost their lives in a wildlife attack, and those injured in a wildlife attack.
