Maoist Center notifies EC about action taken against defecting leaders

KATHMANDU: The Maoist Center has submitted a copy of its decision to expel 17 Central Committee (CC) members and 14 elected officials to the Election Commission for updating the party registration book.

A meeting of CC of the Maoist Center Monday morning took the decision to expel the leaders who defected to the CPN-UML. Subsequently, the decision was sent to the EC in the afternoon.

After the EC updates the details in the party registration book, 14 elected officials defecting to the UML will lose their respective posts.

Earlier, the party had notified the EC after the party authorized Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ to take action against defecting leaders. But the EC sought the decision of the CC to update the action and issue a notice to that effect. Law mandates that people’s representatives will be relieved from their posts only after the EC issues a notice to that effect.

Maoist leaders Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, Lekhraj Bhatt, Gauri Shankar Chaudhary, Prabhu Sah and other members were expelled from the party after they joined the UML.

The Maoist Center re-notified the EC today by submitting necessary documents as sought by the EC.
