Israeli-Palestinian ceasefire comes into effect

GAZA: A ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, a Palestinian militant group has come into effect.

The ceasefire began on Friday, bringing to an end 11 days of bombardment, BBC has reported.

As many as 240 people have died, most of them in Gaza, it said.

Both Israel and Hamas have claimed victory in the conflict.

Fighting began in Gaza on 10 May after weeks of increasing Israeli-Palestinian tension in occupied East Jerusalem, the report said.
