KATHMANDU: The Nepal-Khanal faction of the ruling CPN-UML has decided to move the Supreme Court (SC) after Prime Minister Oli faction sent letters to the leaders of the disgruntled faction, seeking clarification.
“The disgruntled faction has decided to move the court after the establishment sent letters to them seeking clarification alleging that they are trying to split the party,” said a leader close to the Nepal-Khanal faction.
The disgruntled faction is registering a writ petition through an advocate arguing that the Oli faction took actions against the leaders of the Nepal-Khanal faction breaching the Political Parties Act, 2002, said a UML source.
“The clarifications have been sought from the lawmakers against the party statute. We have not abandoned the party, nor have we violated its whip,” said a UML leader, adding, “We are moving the court since the establishment sought clarifications from us without valid reasons.”
Ruling UML on Tuesday sent letters to as many as 32 lawmakers including five provincial lawmakers, seeking clarifications on the charge of carrying out activities against the party interest.
Dispatching letters to the UML lawmakers, the UML gave a two-day deadline to Madhav Nepal, Bhim Rawal, Ghanashyam Bhusal, Surendra Pandey for their clarifications while the other lawmakers have been given a three-day deadline for furnishing their clarifications.
