CHENNAI: Delhi Capitals has defeated defending champions Mumbai Indians by six wickets in a cricket match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021.
Held in Chennai, the capital city of Indian State of Tamil Nadu on Monday, Delhi reached the 138-run target set by Mumbai in 19.1 overs, losing only four wickets.
Delhi’s Shikhar Dhawan top-scored with 45 runs followed by Steven Smith with 33 runs while Lalit Yadav scored 22 runs.
In reply, Mumbai’s Jayant Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Rahul Chahar and Kieron Pollard took one wicket each of Delhi.
Earlier, electing to bat first after winning the toss, captain Rohit Sharma made the highest 44 runs. Similarly, Ishan Kishan notched up 26 while Suryakumar Yadav contributed 24 runs. The other batsmen could not achieve double-digit runs.
To restrict Mumbai to 137 runs, Delhi’s Amit Mishra grabbed the highest four wickets followed by Avesh Khan with two. Besides, Marcus Stoinis, Kagiso Rabada and Lalit Yadav took one wicket each.
With this win, Delhi Capitals reaches the second position with three wins from four matches while Mumbai Indians is in the fourth position in the points table with two wins and two losses.
