Nepali Army intensifies rescue, relief efforts

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Army has been at work for rescue and relief distribution efforts for flood and landslide survivors, resulting from the torrential rain that has hit the country since the past few days.

Five people who were trapped by the flooded Mahakali river at Bhimdatta Municipality-9 in Kanchanpur district have been airlifted to safety, said the Public Relations and Information Directorate, Nepali Army.

Many flood and landslide survivors at Dodhara Chandani Municipality-8, 9 and 10 and Bhimdatta Municipality-11 and 12 in Kanchanpur district, Rajapur Municipality-1, 2 and 3 in Bardiya district, Dipayal Silgadhi Municipality-4, 5 and 6 in Doti district, Itahari Sub Metropolitan City, Tarahara and Panipiya in Sunsari district and Biratnagar-5 in Morang district have been rescued to safety.

Three of four persons who had gone missing in a landslide at Chaubise Rural Municipality-1 in Dhankuta district have been rescued alive and a search has been launched for the fourth person, said the Directorate.

Likewise, the NA helped to retrieve the bodies of two persons who were buried by a landslide at Phidim Municipality-4 in Panchthar district.
