KATHMANDU: Another span of the bridge over the Kamala River has been damaged due to incessant rainfall-induced floods.

The bridge built just a few months ago suffered damage following two days of continuous rains.

Dhanusha Chief District Officer Bandu Prasad Bastola said Pillar No. 3 of the bridge that was close to Dhanusha district sank at noon on Wednesday. “We have received reports that the pillars of the bridge have sunk. We have asked the Kamala Irrigation Project and security personnel to inspect it,” he said.

Earlier too the bridge had suffered damage. A span of this bridge was washed away at Basapitta in Siraha only three months ago.

About 99 percent of the work of Kamala Bridge connecting Siraha and Dhanusha under the Postal Road was completed. The contractor company stated that the only thing left to do was to furnish the bridge.

The contract for the construction of the bridge was awarded to Pappu-Lumbini JV about 10 years ago at a cost of Rs 250 million. However, after the company quit, Lumbini Builders completed the bridge.
