MCC is in Nepal’s interest: PM Deuba

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) is in Nepal’s interest and that some elements were trying to politicize the issue.

He said that the United States was ready to make amendments in the provisions that are not in favor of Nepal.

Speaking to state-run media Gorkhapatra, he added that the MCC wouldn’t be above the national law.

Prime Minister Deuba said that the MCC Nepal compact is just a development grant, asking, “Why should Nepal reject such generous support?”

PM Deuba also dismissed reports of conspiracy behind MCC.

He also clarified that the MCC was a grant and not a loan.

The Prime Minister also stated that it is in the national interest to have good relations with India and China.
