Landslide disrupts Nayapul-Ghandruk road; tourists stranded



POKHARA: Tourists have been stranded on the way when the road leading to Annapurna rural municipality-11, Ghandruk – the tourism destination of the district – remained obstructed due to landslides.

Spokesperson of District Police Office Kaski DSP Subash Hamal informed that the vehicular movement has come to a halt with the disruption of Nayapul-Ghandruk road.

He further shared that the road traffic has been disrupted after landslides took place at Sadi Rivulet of Annapurna-10 at 10.00 pm last night.

Following the obstruction of the road, tourists heading to base camp from Pokhara via Ghandruk have been stranded on the way.

According to him, vehicles moving to Ghandruk from Pokhara are being parked at Birethanti after traffic disruption. Likewise, the vehicles returning to Pokhara from Ghandruk have also been asked to take patience.

Police sources said that it would take some time to clear off the debris.

According to tourism entrepreneurs, an inflow of domestic tourists heading to different destinations including Ghandruk had immoderately gone up with the advent of Dashain.

Tourism entrepreneur Kisam Gurung said Ghandruk that remained almost void for a long time due to coronavirus has now been filled with domestic tourists.

Ghandruk is the main tourism destination within the Annapurna Conservation Area and is also the main entry point of Annapurna Base Camp.
