KATHMANDU: Ruling Nepali Congress (NC) is likely to change the schedule of ward level convention in 13 districts as the issue of active membership is yet to resolved.
In the first phase, the NC had held ward conventions in 57 districts. As per the last revised schedule, the convention was scheduled for September 21 in the remaining 20 districts. The convention will be held in only seven districts including Kathmandu on that date. In the rest of the districts, the NC is preparing to hold ward conventions only after that.
“Ward conventions will be held in seven districts on August 21 while that of 13 districts will be held once the Election Committee decides the date of the ward convention,” said an NC leader.
Mahadev Prasad Yadav, the coordinator of the election committee, said that ward conventions would be held in 13 districts only after August 21. “The election committee has not got the membership of 13 districts.”
A task force comprising Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Dr Minendra Rijal and Ramesh Lekhak had been formed to resolve the active membership row.
The task force on Sunday resolved the membership disputes of all the districts and handed over its report to party President Sher Bahadur Deuba.
“After completing the work of the task force, we handed over the documents to the party President Sher Bahadur Deuba,” said Dr Rijal.
After the list of active members of the remaining districts is signed by President Sher Bahadur Deuba and handed over to the Central Election Committee, the committee will make the list public through the party’s website.
The Congress has not yet made public the list of active membership of eight districts of Province 2 and Rasuwa, Dolpa, Banke, Kailali and Surkhet under 13 districts.
Last Wednesday, the Central Election Committee of the Nepali Congress had made public the list of active membership of Kathmandu, Morang, Kavre, Sindhupalchowk, Kapilvastu, Bardiya and Bajura.
