Politburo member Bharat Bam of Chand-led CPN freed from Central Jail



KATHMANDU: Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’-led Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) leader Bharat Bam has been released from prison.

Bharat Bam alias ‘Ranbir’ spent 28 months in Central Jail in Sundhara and was released Friday. He is the politburo member of the Chand-led CPN. He was welcomed by Chand-led CPN leaders, including Dharmendra Bastola, outside the central jail.

Nepalgunj High Court on Thursday ordered Bam’s release. He had been arrested and charged with treason while the Chand-led CPN was still a banned outfit.

According to the Chand-led CPN, about 100 people, including politburo and local cadres, are yet to be released from jail. The Chand-led CPN joined mainstream politics after striking a three-point agreement with the previous KP Sharma Oli-led government.
