NC and Maoist Center plotting to weaken UML: Leader Basnet

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML leader Mahesh Basnet has accused the Nepali Congress (NC) and the Maoist Center of conspiring to make the UML weak.

In an interaction organized by Reporters Club Nepal in Kathmandu on Friday, he accused Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and House Speaker Agni Sapkota of conspiring to weaken the UML. However, all three would have to pay a high price in future for their actions, he added.

Stating that another purpose of issuing the ordinance on political parties was to try to ensure majority to the NC in the upcoming election, Basnet claimed that the UML would get a thumping majority even in the next polls.

Recalling that the Oli government initiated a journey of development and prosperity over the 40 months while it was the ruling power, he remarked efforts were underway to put a brake on that journey of prosperity. He also said that the speaker had forgotten that he should be impartial and independent and act accordingly.
