KATHMANDU: Lawmaker Chhakka Bahadur Lama has remarked that democracy in Nepal deteriorated and turned into ‘demon-crazy’.

Lama said so at a meeting of parliamentary State Affairs and Good Governance Committee on Friday.

“Democracy is a good system,” he said, adding, “a country with a developed economy has a developed political culture. In a country like ours with a semi-developed economy, culture is also underdeveloped here.”

“When we copied and introduced the ideals of democracy from developed countries in our country, democracy changed into ‘demon-crazy’. Demon was always demonic and here, crazy got added into that mix.”

“What I am trying to say is that there is misgovernance here where it should have been good governance,” he said, adding, “misgovernance is prevalent in the current political and economic spheres of our country.”
