Janamat Party and Nagarik Unmukti Party preparing for merger on April 30

KATHMANDU: Janamat Party Chairman Dr. CK Raut has announced that preparations are underway to declare a political unity between his party and the Nagarik Unmukti Party on April 30.

Taking to Facebook, Raut said the upcoming unification reflects the shared sentiments and aspirations of the people.

“Since the feelings and aspirations of the people are united, we will move forward for unity. Unity will happen,” he wrote. “We are preparing for the declaration between Janamat Party and Nagarik Unmukti Party on April 30.”

Raut claimed the anticipated merger has stirred concern among established political forces. “Many parties and forces have lost their sleep now. Because a new powerful party, which comes from the movement and the people, and works for the people, is in the process of emerging in Nepal,” he said. “An unprecedented union is taking place that will have a far-reaching impact on Nepal’s politics and has never been seen in history.”

He also alleged that attempts are being made to sabotage the unification. According to Raut, these efforts include fueling internal disputes, character assassination, and political persecution.

“Those who do not want to see us grow stronger have left no stone unturned for the past 7–8 months to dismantle both public opinion and the party,” he wrote.

Raut further accused opponents of using money, vehicles, and media to weaken the two parties, adding that threats to his life and the re-arrest of Nagarik Unmukti’s leader Resham Chaudhary were among the tactics used to derail the merger.

“They are leaving no means unused,” he said, “whether it’s through family disputes, caste or religious attacks, bribery, or conspiracies to split the party.”

The potential alliance between the two parties — both rooted in regional and identity-based political movements — could reshape the dynamics of Nepali politics, especially in the southern plains.
