UML cannot take action against 14 lawmakers: Lawmaker Devkota

KATHMANDU: Member of the National Assembly Dr. Khim Lal Devkota has said that CPN-UML cannot take action against 14 lawmakers for not abiding by the party whip to support the government formed under Article 76 (5) of the Constitution.

Expressing his opinion on the news relating to UML’s Chairman KP Oli faction taking action against 14 lawmakers including leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, Dr. Devkota wrote on his social media on Friday that the then Prime Minister KP Oli had not decided any issues in the parliamentary parties and the central committee for the purpose of taking a vote of confidence in the parliament as per Article 76 (2).

He argued that the clarification sought for the purpose of Article 76 (2) cannot be activated for Article 76 (3), 76 (5) of the Constitution.

Dr. Devkota is of the view that the Speaker should not take action on the basis of the letter written to seek revenge without facts and evidence.

He also said that putting pressure on the speaker for this would not fall under the rule of law.
